RELIGOUS HISTORY AN INTRODUCTION
History is God's story. "All things happen just as he decided long ago" (Ephesians 1:11). God is the author of history in the most literal sense of the word. And the plan of history that he is in the process of working out is the one that brings the maximum glory to him. "For everything comes from him; everything exists by his power and is intended for his glory. To him be glory evermore. Amen" (Romans 11:36).
The purpose of this book is to identify the 1001 most significant events in Judeo-Christian history. They were chosen in light of the effect they had on their generation and succeeding generations, both good and bad. Believing that the Jews continue to be God's chosen people, we have included the most significant Jewish dates of the last two millennia.
Where there is a difference of opinion as to the exact date of an event, we have used a consensus date based on several sources. Each date is preceded by a symbol: indicating a significance primarily to Christian history, indicating a significance primarily to Jewish history, or indicating a significance primarily to Muslim history.
May you come to learn more of the God of history through the unfolding of the events recorded in these pages.
